Well Paul, your post has given me hours of food for dialogue, but I will deal
here only with this small portion.

"You neglect to mention that the claim that man cannot pass through the van
Allen belts and live has its origin solely in conspiracy theorists
misconstruing references to the radiation.

That is a nasty presumption of my honesty and science being suspect . This
had its origin in all the texts that I read, and as confirmed by my colleagues
at the Island Lagoon satellite tracking station when I worked under contract
for NASA. It is unfortunate I did not see any reason to retain those
documents.. Just as I did not retain those that indicated the existence of the
Ozone hole and the reasons it existed. You can rest assured that we were
dedicated space enthusiasts, and had no reason to falsify data that would
jeapodise mans conquest of space.

It is easy to find authoritative references which directly address the issue,
concluding that the amount of time spent in the zone will indeed increase
exposure but that it barely increases one's lifetime dose. It is NOT at all
easy to find those references of which I talk in any more modern sources.. One
can be excused for wondering why? In most of the ancient scientific texts one
will allways find reference to the mistakes made as science is improved. Why
not in this instance. Other than an unsupported assertion that Van Allen was
wrong..

We may have hoped he was wrong, but we were not stupid enough to falsify the
evidence.

Let me reassert.. The mapping of the fields of radiation and magnetism etc in
space by many satellites going many hundreds of miles out in long elliptical
orbits was an ongoing continuous monitoring effort. These were emmensely
important to confirm the earlier high altitude rockets earlier readings which
were limited in scope for large volume measuring. The instruments were
calibrated and recalibrated with enormous expense. Each component vacuum tube
or solid state was subjected to an inspection and testing proceedure everytime
it changed hands and was placed into another area. I saw the invoiced price of
a 15 shilling 6AQ5 bought into our lab jump to 5 pounds after just 5 such
inspections.. If we wanted one for personal use we stole it.

Continued reference to this non starter simply reduces your credibility." I
believe Von Braun, and Asimov who trusted this data from these satellites as to
the radiation strength, and the height to which it extended enough that they
themselves doubted man could pass through them , and it was Asimov himself who
proposed it was not a hindrance because we would still escape by a polar route
where this radiation was minimal or non existent. I can clearly remember his
diagrams with respect to this idea. That gave us emense hope.

Wiki The trapped radiation was first mapped out by Sputnik 3, Explorer 4,
Pioneer 3 and Luna 1. Not entirely true..It could hardly be called
mapping..check the links. I began in 1962. The satellites we traccked and
collected data from were specially designated. and worked perfectly...This is
not to say that those more well known units did not contribute. In fact they
confirmed the data from the exploration rockets.

I am not saying they have falsified readings, but if you read this article,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Allen_radiation_belt
and all the relevant links, you will find that a lot is left UNSAID. about the
effect on human beings. A lot unsaid about earlier predictions.. If there was
a cover up, it seem likely from the modern data in wiki, that Van Allen was
well positioned to co-operate.

This sounds really OUT THERE
The belts are a hazard for artificial satellites and moderately dangerous for
human beings, difficult and expensive to shield against.

There is a proposal by the late Robert L. Forward called HiVolt which may be a
way to drain at least the inner belt to 1% of its natural level within a year.
The proposal involves deploying highly electrically charged tethers in orbit.
The idea is that the electrons would be deflected by the large electrostatic
fields and intersect the atmosphere and harmlessly dissipate. [7]

Well maybe it was a success back in the Appollo days.. Will explain why we
can't get through now, because the belts regenerated didn't they.. Now that IS
presumptive of me.. but I'm still impartial on the matter.. No matter now,
the first part of the BIG Bang has just hit... Man will not be worried about
the moon or mars from now on.... got your potatoe patch planted? Plenty of
rain in a tank or bottles full in the cupboard.. You debunked us as nuts when
we told you of this crash 2 years ago..
Philip.

  Philip M

Sorry -- been busy. Herewith a few thoughts.

These do not confirm a man was present any more than does the unmanned
Martian probes ...

You are correct. However, if I adopt the same level of suspicion and
distrust, I can claim that the Martian probes are actually manned but NASA has
maloevelant intentions in keeping this secret because the truth is that they
can't manage to build functional autonamous robots and carefully contrive the
photo angles to avoid showing foot prints. Proove me wrong.
However I am still impartial as regards the truth of the matter..
Nevertheless I still have suspicions, as I do trust the integrity of the
original findings of early 60's satellites that indicated the hazard of the Van
Allen belts..
I'm surprised that you keep making reference to this Philip. You neglect to
mention that the claim that man cannot pass through the van Allen belts and
live has its origin solely in conspiracy theorists misconstruing references to
the radiation. It is easy to find authoritative references which directly
address the issue, concluding that the amount of time spent in the zone will
indeed increase exposure but that it barely increases one's lifetime dose.
Continued reference to this non starter simply reduces your credibility.

after all this time I thought you would have gotten a bit familiar with
geocentrism.
Here I guess it's my turn to apologise for putting you to all that effort
because of course I have not forgotten your previous explanations involving the
aether. I visualise your explanation as saying that, as the Universe rotates,
all the laws of physics rotate with it -- an unproven and unprovable
proposition. It is entirely an artifact generated to prop up the hypothesis
that the universe rotates once daily. My problems with this explanation remain
the same. Your assertions/explanations are a bit like a favourite of mine -- "I
say there is an invisible elf living at the bottom of my garden. Prove me
wrong." And again -- "The universe was created 6000 years ago with history
incorporated to give the perfect impression of great age." I say it was created
one second ago, complete down to your fictitious memory of having originated
these messages to which I am replying. Well, I'm not of course -- that too is
part of the perfect history. Time really begins when you start reading this
message. Prove me wrong.

This approach is entirely unproductive and is the reason that you can't get
an argument with bona fide scientific investigators for whom only one thing
matters -- repeatable consistent results from real experiments which fit into
the total scheme like the pieces of a random order jigsaw puzzle having no
picture to guide you. There is only one way for all the pieces to fit together.
