Brian,

There is a pretty good writeup on much of this at this
address:
        http://www.thecassandraproject.org/archive.html

In addition to the Sun X Terminals and Exceed stuff talked about
there,
  - there are other comercial X windowing packages on PCs,
  - Several installations use one or another version of LINUX
    as the software platform for X terminals,
  - the program 'VNC' has become popular lately.

There was a fairly long discussion thread about VNC on this list
a couple of months back and there have been others centered on
Exceed, web server, and other methods. This stuff can be seen
in the archives, and the archives are searchable.

Go to
     //www.freelists.org/archives/foxboro/

Punch VNC or Exceed or the like into the SEARCH box.

Best of luck,
Regards,

William C. Ricker
