You've gotta very good point here...
Like, why can Sheila hear her mike, yet its not actually quote going to
tape unquote?
What I guess might be happening is, that if her cans are plugged in to her
mixer, she can hear herself being monitored thru the left & right
channels, yet, her mike's signal isn't being routed to the physical
outputs!?
By the way, she said she's using an old Mackie of some sort...

I'm trying to work out why you can hear your microphone yet it doesn't
seem to be recording what you hear.
Mike from the list, is more than likely right, it could so easily be a
routing problem. This may still be easily solved if you let us know what
mixer you are using. It could be as simple as pressing one button on the
mixer's microphone channel.
I also am willing to try and help off list, I'm not that brilliant when
it comes to computers, however, I've been wiring up studios and live
stage events for over 25 years so may be able to help.

Isn't the whole idea of the list to help answer questions? I've just
listened to Sheila's recording, it's beautifully arranged, maybe Sheila
is foremost a Writer and arranger, maybe Sheila's not quite up to speed
with all the wirering and routing involved in sound engineering.

Thanks for all your suggestions, everyone. Couldn't get the mic to
work with
the mixing board, so I got the level up in the Motif and used that
instead.
I have rough vocals and a rough mix now and will sleep on it before
trying

offer suggestions. It's very schmaltzy, was asked to write it for a
high

Apart from the Mackie not having the relevant channels' input selected

mike input, if the mixer has buss buttons adjacent to the faders,
maybe one

I'm working with the Motif and Sonar and have a mic just going in to
an old Mackie mixing board which usually is fine. I've created an
