Have you installed any drivers needed by the Mackie?
In Sonar, have you gone into Options > Midi Devices, and selected any ports that say Mackie?

Have you then gone Options > Controllers/Surfaces, and made sure the Mackie is listed? If it isn't listed, go to the Add button and add it.

Now, go to the Tools menu and hit enter on Mackie Control. Explore that dialog. IMPORTANT!: from within that dialog, hit F1 twice quickly and read the help file that opens!!
