> Security-wise, what documentation is available on how to lock down redhat > linux 6.2 ... or any other linux distribution, for that matter? Let's say > I want to put my Linux server out on the internet, how can I protect it > from getting hacked? Here it is: Get on the security mailing list. Update every package that they mention. For anything you install, make sure you follow the author's security annoucements. Turn off all services, then enable only the ones you absolutely need. Use good passwords. Don't use Telnet or FTP, but ssh instead. If you're really paranoid, install intrusion detection software such as Tripwire. However, following these guidlines, you'll never get cracked anyway. I think that's just about as consise as it gets.
