Dear Booksharians,

This is a question, not a tantrum, but why are fair books approved at all? Unless it's a textbook someone has to have, why not rejecct fair books? When I'm reading, the errors in fair books distract me. I'm a little embarrassed for Bookshare and consumed with the need to fix them. I know I can fix them on the braille note, but haven't been able to correct mistakes in the HTML files I listen to. I want to spare other readers from tripping over the mistakes. One of the options is to rescan going the BSO route, but why approve fair books in the first place? The volunteers whose fair books are approved may be comfortable to continue careless scanning because approval means fair is good enough. For some, cranking out scans to earn their memberships with the least effort, no accountability, is a green light to keep doing it that way.

Approving a fair book because it is rare and the only available copy is yellowed or because a book has busy background or elaborate fonts, and doesn't scan well, might be justifiable.

Any clarifications or opinions?

Always with love,

Lissi
