For indexes that are originally in columns and tiny print so they would go across several pages when I eliminate the columns, I put several entries on one line. Perhaps you could do that with your lists of books in the series. Come to think of it, the Boy Scout merit badge books had lists of the other merit badge books and I put several of them on one line to make them fit the page (although the merit badge titles were usually only one or two words which made it easy to put several on one line). The book lists being on un-numbered pages in your case, I don't really see any problem with making them several pages either.

Actually, I think it occurs pretty frequently Word 2007. The best of my knowledge at least one of the other types of section breaks is related to column structure and how FineReader interprets it. I did not look for that in my Bobbsey Twin book, but that is something that occurs in all of their books in the front, mostly listing their titles. I struggle with how to format that, as to whether I should just let it be a simple list and run across additional pages (there are so many that even legal size does not fit into one page) or whether just to eliminate the other titles, but I don't want to do that. I am inclined since it is an unnumbered page to just make a list that runs across additional pages instead of trying to preserve this format which creates two peculiar style section breaks since you go from one column to two columns to one column that particular page. Leave it to me to find an obscure problem and then have it be in a series where I will be doing dozens of books. ;-) HTH! Yes, there is more than one kind of section break; though, I don't know whether ^b and ^% each select one of the types. By far the most common is both the end of a "section" and the end of a page.. Each "section" in word can have a specific formatting "style" applied to it. The other kind os section break allows the style to change, but does not mark the end of a page. There must be some type of document this is useful in, but I can't think of what. The only thing important about these two is that for a file with both types in it, if you use the usual find and replace technique to change section breaks to page breaks, it will remove all section breaks, but not put in page breaks. Absolutely the only reason I know about this is that one day the settings on the scanner that Carrie uses at bookshare got messed up and it started putting in both types of section breaks. Also, by chance, I found there is a work-around to this problem. If you start at the end of the document and tell find and replace to search backwards, it converts all the section breaks to page breaks correctly. So, everyone can just forget about all this because the problem with the two kinds of section breaks will probably never occur again. I do know that when I type ^b into the find box, and ^m into the replace box, section breaks are changed to page breaks. I'm usingWord2003, so go figure. I just know what I do, and what it makes happen. I never understand why. How I checked it was to doa find& replace, then clicked the special menu, then chose section break. What wasin the box at that point was ^%. I'm not sayin who's right or wronghere--asI said, I, too, thought that section break was ^b. But my version ofword, which, again, is 2003, seems to indicate otherwise. Valerie: U asked about the following codes: Line break--no code. See explanation, below Blank line ^p Paragraph break ^p Section break ^% Page break ^m Indent/tab ^t Line breaks are inserted when a line becomes too long to fit in the set margins & this is a soft, not a hard code. It will be changedifthe margins are changed. Blank lines & paragraphs are the same. & usually actually consist of ^p^p Note these codes are word 2k3. So that I have them all in one note, I am interested in: Line break Blank line Paragraph break Section break Page break Indent/tab In short, I thought I could highlight a selection in my work and hit the style I had modified and it would only change that text, but it changed the entire document and I had done many more contextual repairs before knowing it had changed all my title formatting and indents. Ugh! This is most definitely a learning process... Thanks!
