You might try changing the side  margins. I usually use .75 on each but since 
you're not going to print the file you can try .5

You can also use smaller font.

When you say it gets funky after legal. I'm not sure what you mean

In Format file, when you clock on document, can you click on document, Then 
page setup, then then page attributes, then custom page size and put in  any 
numbers in the spaces? (When I proofed Memoirs of  Cleopatra  I set the top 
margin at .25, the bottom at .56, and the side margins at .25 and the wisth at 
8.50

DID you try custom and is that when tthe flwe got funky?
