Word 2002 shows section break as ^b and ^i is graphic.

When I checked (because I thought it was ^b also but wasn't sure) my
MSWord said ^%. I, too, was taken aback by that. How I checked it was
to do a find & replace, then clicked the special menu, then chose
section break. What was in the box at that point was ^%. I'm not sayin
who's right or wrong here--as I said, I, too, thought that section
break was ^b. But my version of word, which, again, is 2003, seems to
indicate otherwise. Since this also has me puzzled, any input is
greatly appreciated. I'd hate to lead some1 astray. In this case,
though, since I did actually check b4 I wrote that, I don't quite know
what to say.

In transcribing to my cheat sheet, isn't section break ^b?

Take care!

Valerie:

U asked about the following codes:
Line break--no code. See explanation, below
Blank line ^p
Paragraph break ^p
Section break ^%
Page break ^m
Indent/tab ^t

Line breaks are inserted when a line becomes too long to fit in the
set margins & this is a soft, not a hard code. It will be changed if
the margins are changed. Blank lines & paragraphs are the same. &
usually actually consist of ^p^p

Note these codes are word 2k3.

Thought I understood a formatting
tool, in the ribbon (don't get me started
on that!) for a different book I am working on and need to
keep a single
reference of keystroke codes for find and replace in one
place. I do have a
"before" saved copy, but want to learn from my
mistake. So that I have them
all in one note, I am interested in:

Line break
Blank line
Paragraph break
Section break
Page break
Indent/tab

In short, I thought I could highlight a selection in my
work and hit the
style I had modified and it would only change that text,
but it changed the
entire document and I had done many more contextual repairs
before knowing
it had changed all my title formatting and indents.
Ugh! This is most
definitely a learning process...

Thanks!
Valerie
