Just one more update for the moment.
I believe now that I have been describing 2 different birds that I've seen
in our yard, and one of them I am sure is a Brown Thrasher. We got a good
look at him today and he looks just like the pictures I've seen on the
Internet. He is the one we've seen running. He came under some bushes in
our full view, except for some shade there, and he was stirring up leaves
and grass for nearly 10 minutes before he took off. There were robins and
doves and all kinds of sparrows along with blue jays and cardinals today.
The Brown Thrasher is similar in some ways to the first bird I described,
but the first bird's feathers were not as dark as the thrasher and his chest
is totally different. Also the eyes of the first bird were not intense
looking like the thrasher.
We think we saw 2 Brown Thrashers today near each other. Though there were
quite a few varieties of birds in our yard we did not see the soft-looking
tabby-orange bird I first described today.
I hope I'm not being a pest to anyone; birds are becoming more and more
interesting to me. Thank you all for your advice.

Hi again everyone,
I've gotten several replies to my last post. Most people still believe it
is a Brown Thrasher, some still say a Hermit Thrush.
I suppose it could be either with a somewhat different coloration than
pictures that I have seen.
If I get any more info or a picture then I'll let you all know.

Hello everyone,
Thank you all for so many replies! Wow! I apologize that my internet
connection has been down since last Saturday evening but I've been trying to
get on. I've looked at lots of pictures. I still have to say this bird is
not a brown thrasher. The spots on the chest are light orange, not dark at
all and the eyes are not right.
We have seen the bird several more times, but it is very quick.
One thing we have been able to note about the behavior of this bird is that
it will make a quick running dash before it quickly flies off into a thick
of trees. It runs very fast!
One time I saw the back of it clearly as it flew up into a tree and the tail
feathers fanned out beautifully.
Still hoping to get a picture.

Hello,
There has been a bird visit my yard 4 or 5 times that I've seen in the past
3 weeks. The first time I saw it was up pretty close as I was coming around
the corner into my dining room and it was right outside the patio door, but
as soon as it saw my movement it took off.
It was the color of an orange tabby cat, solid on top and the breast was a
creamy beige color with brownish spots. The feathers looked soft like an
owl, but it was not an owl. It was about the same size as a robin. Every
time I've seen it and it notices any movement it takes off very quickly and
I can't follow it.
I've looked and the closet thing I've seen to what it looks like is a veery,
but the pictures I've seen do not have the right color. This bird was more
striking orange-brown like an orange tabby cat. Also the veery seems a bit
small compared to this bird.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of bird this may be? I live in the city
limits in Lexington, KY and have been here for over 15 years and have never
seen this type of bird before.
