Be fair, I did say "counted with *an* eyewitness". The buddy system has also been repeatedly verified in practice.

That's quite true -- see below -- but I thought it worth warning about carrying the same idea too far. It's really tempting to think that if one is good, more is better...

In fact, our satellite assembly/preparation procedures don't really go in for the equivalent of sponge trays, but the buddy system, yes. The normal assembly/prep crew is two (they may swap roles from time to time). One does the actual assembly. The other watches, attends to the checklist, takes photos regularly (digital cameras are a huge win), tracks tools and consumables, and lends a hand occasionally when needed.
