Hi HusnaYou could ask your phone provider how close you are to the exchange if you give them your postcode.
Regarding Virgin Media, as they now seem to be across the board, they don't support routers that you would need to use if you decide to run a network. We had that problem when it was Telewest. They supply a modem, but they don't offer router support. Whereas the ADSL suppliers like Sky give you a combined modem/router.
I hope this makes sense. Jackie----- Original Message ----- From: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi, so how do you find out how close to the exchange you are then? thanks, Husna original message --- Hi there If I may put my 2 pence in here, I'm with BT and I regularly get between five and six meg download. It could be down to the fact that I'm quite close to the exchange. All the information is subjective because all too often, people forget to mention how close to the exchange they are when they are on ADSL, which I am. Regards. I get loads of stuff through the door now exstolling the virtues of a Virgin opical connection. Thing is, the speeds on offer don't seem that impressive at the moment, though they make much of the fact the distance from the exchange doesn't matter. We have Telewest in our area, which is the equivalent. Haven'tlookedinto their prices lately. I know with Sky that we need a BTlandline forthe ADSL service. I must admit it has been years since I first looked into Sky, andthattime it was pretty expensive, and you had to have a BT line goingintoyour home. Don't you need such a BT line anymore?. The only thing I don't like about Sky broadband, is the monthlycap. With Virgin Media there is no monthly capping, Billy** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: **access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to **access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq__________ NOD32 2758 (20071231) Information __________ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.eset.com** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq -- No virus found in this incoming message.
