ok so here's what I did, I use alt+r twice
I didn't hit enter on all, however when I hit enter on the individual midi
devices that I would like to trigger said track, it works in the way I
wanted it to, so as I change tracks it remembers which device controlls
which track.
, what I had asked for happens, the different tracks utalise different midi
controllers
so my drum track is triggered through the drum pad and my midi keyboard
handles the other instruments
this is fantastic, so now I can just do this for when I need that extra umph
that the drum pad gives to drums.

Liu. You need to have "all" selected in the track options in order to use
both your midi devices. A shortcut to do this is to press alt+R twice when
on a track. Arrow down and make sure "midi" is checked, then select "all"
for the midi device. Then, it doesn't matter which midi device you use.
I don't think you can say "use this device on this track and this device on
another", but by selecting "all" either will work. Steve.

another thing that just rared its head is
I have a korg nano pad which is like a drum pad type thing
I'd like to have it trigger midi on some tracks and my midi controler
keyboard for other tracks.
how do I do this without one taking control of all the tracks?
so far I've used the track options to assign one, but then when I check the
rest all of them are being controled by the same controler.
and if I switch it back all tracks switch back to the other one.
isn't there a way to do this? some check box I'm not checking?
that would make it so that I can use different midi diveces on different
tracks, so that when I change tracks it changes to a different midi device.
I know I said some of the things more than once but I'm trying to be as
clear as possible.

Stand in front of a wall. Stretch your arms far apart. Can you reach
either end of the wall? Let's assume you cannot do this. That's zoomed in.
Now start backing away. the wall isn't getting smaller, but it seems
smaller as you get farther away. Imagine that the smaller it gets as
it receeds into the distance, the more of it you can get your arms around.
The wall is a track or tracks, containing bars, objects, individual
samples, whatever. How close (zoomed in), or far away (zoomed out)
you are, changes your perspective!
