hi eleanor, yes the ncbi have people we can call on who are also very professional indeed. on what basis they are employed i haven't a notion but they are always excellent. i will take on board what yourself, aedan and flor have told me and hopefully i will get sorted.thanks a lot for your reply. jenny----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor Burke" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 19, 2010 7:31 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: computer freezingI think an immediate trip Jenny. Off you go tomorrow while you have a day off!!! In UK the RNIB have a service of computer volunteers. These are sighted people with a knowledge of IT and it is possible to call and ask for one to visit. It may mean waiting for about a week or so but my experience is that they are excellent. Anything like that in Ireland? Wonder if not, if NCBI would ever consider setting up such a service. I think the RNIB might pay the volunteers' travel expenses but that is as far as it goes. Would think they have police search done too but that is only as good as on the day it is done!!!Eleanor----- Original Message ----- From: "Aedan O'Meara" <aomeara@xxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 19, 2010 6:39 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: computer freezingHi Jenny, Flor may be right, but what you describe makes me wonder a bout your hard drive. The fact that it will not reboot properly suggests to methat there is more than a fan in trouble. I would be inclined to backup any vital data without delay. Perhaps a trip to a service centre would be best. Kind regards Aedan. -----Original Message----- From: vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of janeobrien Sent: Friday, November 19, 2010 4:25 PM To: vip students Subject: [vip_students] computer freezing hi to the list, can anyone help me please, when i turn on my computer everything is in order until i read a couple ofemails and bingo my computer freezes for no good reason.i turn it off from the tower, but each time i turn it back on i just get a buzzing sound and nothing happens, this occurs at least 4-5 times and thenit works perfectly. as you can imagine it is very frustrating.i am using "jaws 9" and "windows xp home addition" i also have avast 5 whichupdates each day.any thoughts would be much appreciated but could i ask any explanations insimple language as i am certainly not a computer buff. thanks for any help. jenny o'brien.
