Kix would help. Even if you can't keep them out, you could cripple the app during off hours. Assuming it's a database (all business solutions are databases aren't they?). You could write a script to boot users out, and then use XCACLS or some other util to reset permissions so even if they managed to get in, they couldn't access any data or perhaps key .exe(s). This might not be clean to the end user however. I can hear the help desk call now... "What do you mean it's not supposed to work, I'm in it aren't I". Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to publish/unpublish an app from a simple script. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Evan Mann Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 3:00 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: repost: limit access to applications via time frame Ron actually has defined exactly what I'd like to do essentially. Limit access to only a particular published application during certain time frames. I don't think the KIX menthod you (Ron) suggested would work in a scenario such as #1 below, would it? -----Original Message----- From: Ron Oglesby [mailto:roglesby@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 2:55 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: repost: limit access to applications via time frame Sure. BUT. I can see two scenarios (for sure with Citrix) that this is too much.=20 1- only want to limit this to a specific application. Like a money trading or transferring app that should only be run during banking hours.=20 2- An app that has a backend that needs to have regular maintenance (lets say everyday between 8 and 9 pm) Now in both of these you want users to be able to logon and use other apps. Just not this one.. Login hours won't force a user out, just keeps em from coming back in. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jim Hathaway Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 1:06 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: repost: limit access to applications via time frame The quick and dirty way to do this would be to set user login hours.=20 J -----Original Message----- From: Evan Mann [mailto:emann@xxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 9:05 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] repost: limit access to applications via time frame Hoping to get more coverage on a weekday post here. Would like to be able to limit access to published applications based on a time frame throughout the day. I realize this could be done with Load Manager, but upgrading XPa/XPe will cost a decent amount of money. ($2500) So if anyone knows of a lower cost solutions, let me know. ********************************************** This weeks sponsor Jetro Platforms=20 Jetro Platforms Ltd. is an enterprise software developer,=20 bringing a new era in server-based computing, secured internet=20 access, and disaster recovery.
