I took your suggestion and did check out IC601. The input voltage was 170 
volts and output fluctuated between 0 and 140 volts very fast. Base of 
Horizontal 
output showed drive pulses untill shutdown occured. I ordered a replacement 
to IC601 which crosses to an NTE1788. Will let you know the results. Thanks a
