David,
Since covering the end sensor allows the set to stop cycling, covering the unit
doesn't help, how does
light get to the sensor when a cassette is inserted?
What ever slide blocks the light in STOP mode, is not blocking the light
indicating the cassette carriage
is not in time with the rest of the unit. I think you can carefully remove
one/two screws and adjust the
slides. There should be an arrow on a gear and one on the slide that would line
up.
I've seen this on Symphonic units, but not sure if this Samsung has the same
type of mechanism.
I can't fathom how replacing the sensor will repair this..like you said,
blocking the LED and it works.

BTW the sensor that causes this unit to stop its moving and power-up on
plug in is labeled "START SENSOR". The sensor diode and sensors check
OK. I think I'm going to need a schematic for this one. Anyone out there
have one?

Subject: [TechAssist] Samsung VCR/TV Combo - MVR2166 - KS-2 Chassis -
Powers up when plugged in

When this unit is plugged in it powers up and the cassette tray moves
back and forth. If I press the "ON/OFF" button the TV goes off, the
motion stops, but then the tray starts to move back and forth again,
when it moves forward the TV powers up. If I place my finger over the
cassette sensor, this motion stops and I'm able to turn the TV "ON" and
"OFF" but as soon as I remove my finger the whole thing starts to act up
again. I'm thinking maybe the sensor LED is not working and I'm in the
process of taking this unit apart. If anyone has seen this problem
before or if anyone has a schematic to share I would greatly appreciate
the help.

Thanks in advance,
