Friends, IC850 (12V regulator) was not working (replaced it). It feeds tuner, video head drive motor, etc. When it came on for the first time parental lock was engaged noted by the front panel LED blinking (6) times! Holding down the PWR ON button for ten seconds deactivated the parental lock. Loaded a tape, it played okay however forward and reverse search not working, ejected tape and noticed take-up reel not picking up the slack tape. In STOP mode, RW and FF don't work, actually capstan moves for 1/2 a second then stops. Took out VCR mechanism for a peek and now NEW problem...tape will load, video head spins up but the capstan motor is not working at all. Pressing FF or RW causes capstan motor to move for a second then it stops. To top it all off the front panel LED now blinks (10) times again. Not sure what I did here, if anyone has an idea please I'd appreciate a pointer. This thing is driving me nuts. I only have the manual on microfiche which I would be happy to send you if you have the time to wait. I have duplicates so there is no need to return it. I looked at the PS block diageram and see nothing that is common to all the different problems. I was unable to download the customers instruction manual (too old) to verify my "no parental lock" statement, it IS odd that it blinks 10 times. Let me know if you need the microfiche. John.
