These were trialled at some sites in Enfield, but were a nightmare. They are
basically a vehicle horn glued to a black wait panel inside a PBU. The
partially sighted hold their hand against the panel and it vibrates when at
green man. These were mounted (if I remember) above the PBU. The vibrators
vibrated too much and kept breaking the bond to the panel itself. We tried
various glues, compounds and industrial sealants to bond them but it never
worked sufficiently to make the trial viable. I'm not sure who the
manufacturer was, or if they're still made but TfL may have some detail.

Subject: [TCUG] Vibrating tactile plates

I've just been asked to look into providing these as my client doesn't like
the idea of cones. I have a vague memory that in the early days of Puffin
crossing these were trailed but I haven't heard of their use since.

Can anyone shed any light on current providers please ?
