I have a Gerald Livingston orange battery that lets me run music and stuff for
hours. It charges as I run the engine, or using a plug-in system, and won’t
draw off the auto battery when not running the engine.

Somebody knows those solar dashboard panels? Grey? About 18” square. I probably
have one somewhere in a box.

As far as why spend money on a solar panel set up. I sure wish I had one when
we went nine days with no electricity a couple years back.

I have a dual battery set up. I got my battery from West Marine and got a
larger one that will cycle at least 1,000 times before it bites the dust. It
also holds the charge for 90 amp hours. It came in handy at TP@P. I ran
interior lights and a stereo for 3 days before it ran out of juice.

I have considered a solar panel for a trickle charge so I can free up the plugs
in my inverters though.

Man what shows are you going to? I wouldn't mind a free solar panel!
And I was actually just wondering if just a little trickle charger panel
would help much. They're so cheap I might just try one.
Thanks again for your time. Kelly

The only solar panels I have seen are the ones that were handed out for free at
shows or a raffle or door prizes. They can be used as a trickle charges. If you
are looking for a second battery, go to a battery rebuilder’s shop and buy a
rebuilt one for $50-$60.

Subject: [tcb] Question About Dual Battery Set-Up And Solar Panels

Hello. I need to get a deep cycle RV battery for my Westfalia Campmobile. I'm
seeing about a gazillion types with vastly varying prices. ($120-$600!) Is it
really all that complicated or can I just get the cheap Sears Marine/RV
battery? ($120)
Also, I have noticed a lot of Westies with solar panels. Why? If they have a
campsite with electrical hook-up the battery can charge itself. If not, the
alternator will charge it during a short drive. I don't get it. Why would
anybody want to drop $400 for a solar panel? (Tell me it isn't just to be
"green".)
  Thanks for your time,... )< (- (_ (_ `(
