Thanks for that reassurance. Now I'm clearer. Thanks!

Hi Carol.

If your buying a phone sim free, it will not be locked to
any network so you can simply slip any sim in to it for
instant use. You can be sure that the phones sold as sim
free will be unbranded as its the networks that have the
branding and customization made to the phone and which
they sell through their own channels. I assure you that
any phone bought from a reputable dealer will be unlocked
and unbranded with the original manufacturer's unmodified
firmware.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Thanks. Appreciated, as always.

Just one further clarification, if I may?

Presumably "Sim free" means unlocked to all networks. Is this correct? What about "Unbranded"? How do I know
this when looking around for phones!

Hmmm!

So do you have a phone number for PLAY and even an
email address, please, or do I go hunting on that
rather full (slightly cluttered) site?

Hi.

No, the reason that Play is so popular with punters is
its what you see is what you pay pricing policy, its
fast turnaround, free delivery, excellent customer
service by phone and email, the easy to navigate
website, wide range of product etc etc.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Well right exactly. I didn't think it was right. 1 of
the biggest selling points of play is the fact that
it's VAT exempted because of where it is.

Hi.

You won't be charged any extra for purchasing items
over the £18 mark. Play
is responsible for purchasing the items and paying
taxes, the prices you see
on the website will be the prices you pay. I've
purchased phones and other things costing well over
£18 in the past and have never experienced a problem.
Considering play are the second-most popular retailer
in the UK, I
would think that they know how to operate a sound
business and inform customers of any changes to tax
and customs regulations.
All the best, Ibrahim.

That's interesting because it's still part of British
territory so I don't really understand why you'd be
charged for customs duty if it's in UK territory.

hi Darren, yes they are based there so anything over
about £18-20 purchased from there is technically a
import and so is liable for customs duties. Anything
massively over this cost and you could end up with a
shock due to extra costs. Fine for dvds and cds or anything cheap
though. Hope this helps. Cheers Pete )

Play are based in jourzey. That's why there's no VAT
because jourzey is a tax haven.

Also amazon have it for same price as play. Be careful
with play as if the item is expensive you could pay
customs duty because they are overseas

Hi.

Try play.com which offer free delivery or expansis if
you need it next day. Those are the two websites I
mainly use for mobiles and accessories.
All the best, Ibrahim.

So, anyone know the best place for getting the N86
unbranded and not tied to any network, please?
