Hi all,
I'd also like to point out that writing your concerns to the city
commissioners is *very* important. yes, they do see bodies, but they often
read emails, and all of them become public record.
It may just give them pause if enough people write, warning of safety
concerns, and the commissioners knowing that each concern is now a public
record. If they ignore the concerns, well, then someone can come back to
them later and point out how they were warned ahead of time (should there be
any injuries or deaths that is, and they chose to ignore the information).
I certainly think it's very important for blind people to try and explain to
the commissioners that a "chirper" doesn't automatically guarantee a safe
crossing through a large, busy, intersection. that in fact, it's not always
easy to hear and interpret the chirping properly, nor is it easy to walk
fast enough to cross intersections which have islands and medians and such
like obstacles. I think we should also remind them of the constant danger
from right turns on red, that no "chirper" is going to change in the least.
So please, if you feel that people's safety is being put ahead of a few
individuals self interest (those who want to say they helped implement a
change), if you feel you've been let down by those who are supposed to look
out for your interests, then write to the city commissioners. The email

Well, I guess it was Kevin's vote since he was on the board and he had the
right to vote. Now it is our right to fill city hall at the commission
hearings and I mean fill it. We Need to get all our friends to go also.
There has been a lot said on the subject but we have one trump card left and
that is showing up at city hall. I know from experience city commissioners
take serious note when voters show up at there meetings.
Now for the disturbing news. It certainly suppresses me that the vote by
the TAC was unanimous, apparently they didn't take our concerns very
seriously and that fact is going to make it harder to defeat the change. I
am disappointed that a citizen advisory committee didn't listen to who they
are representing. I am pretty sure this was a done deal before it ever got
started.
