Hi Di,

they arent bad, just the angle isnt the best for a dog
with the porportions the shepherd has. I dont know the
guy who took the photos but he seems to be shooting
them "from the shoulder", which is fine when you have
like a legged terrier like a kerry blue, Irish or
Wheaten where they are "up and over"... usually when a
photographer does that with a shepehrd, I ask them to
"crouch down and shoot him from the hip please" if
they dont, I reposition the dog at an "angle" to make
him look a little shorter bodied.. If not, then I ask
for a 3/4 angle out front and i am sure to stack the
rear REALLY Wide ( you lose a lot of angle behind with
a 3/4 angle in front shot)

Think about it, if the eye is drawn (meaning the
picture is positioned) from the shoulder, you see the
"dog and every thing back behind it" so you tone it
down by posing the dog and a slight angle and viola,
problem fixed.. youve shorten him.

If you see the dog from the "hip and up", you see the
dog as "everything in front of it" which means, get to
the back of your dog, mash that hip down to get that
topline and make sure his Neck is out of his shoulders
and you have that "building the dog up from the back"
affect.

I didnt realize that you "clever" a photographer until
I watched and learned from Wood Wornall in Santa Ynez,
CA. He always gets a good photo with his dogs and just
a little bit of his coaching made the difference inthe
world to some of my win photos.

Mike
