Let me explain from personal experience - if you have never actually trained
and
trialed at a higher level you do may not have a good understanding of what is
really required. I mean you personally getting out there. I would not expect
someone who spends their entire time in agility, for instance, and does not
ever
compete in conformation to understand the ins and outs of campaigning a
conformation dog. I know anyone can sign a check and have a handler find, train
and finish a dog, but I mean actually picking, training, conditioning and
grooming a dog to be competitive. If you have never done that, you will have a
harder time understanding why certain things are necessary to make a well run
show/trial. The same is true if you have never actually competed in agility or
herding or SchH or whatever. There is nothing like the experience earned by
doing. Why higher classes? Compare the experience you get taking one puppy into
a small show's 6-9 class vs competing in Breed at the national. Someone who has
managed to squeek through an HT does not have the same understanding as someone
who has earned an HX. Ditto for RN vs UD. I am not negating the entry levels,
but they are only a start. Just like 6-9 is the first step on the road of
learning conformation showing.
I know we have at least 3 board members who have trained to high titles. And
when Lori was on the board we had someone who owner handled in just about
everything including finishing her dogs from Bred By.

Hope that makes my meaning clear.
Ruth

I don't understand your question. Why would anyone who works their own
dogs at any stage make a difference? Everyone has to start somewhere and
usually that's at the entry level. Some people reading your post may
misconstrue it as elitist, a perception that we, as a club, are unfortunately
accused of at times.

Pat
