So many posts about the qualifications for board members, yet I have notseen
the word INTEGRITY.

I agree and disagree (Sounding more like Evan every year!:). It's
important to have knowledgeable people on the Board w/out all that Ego
and Control/Power problems, that seem to rise up; but it's also
important to utilize the wisdom of those who are not currently
breeding or showing. It's important to have people on the Board who
have been/or are currently guardians of the breed standard, but it's
also important to have those who are or have been very concerned with
all the other aspects of the Total GSD... their working ability.
Where did I read something about developing the working qualities?
Oh, right... the GSDCA Purpose that Carol M. sent me to read! :-)
This is all the personal opinion of a person who no longer breeds,
thinking hard about getting back into the performance areas , but
still is current on all that is going on in today's scary animal world.

I think more important questions are:
How many of our current Board of Directors and potential candidates
have had
a litter of puppies in the last 2 years that they tended themselves, not
having the "hired" help do it? How many have finished Champions, put
AKC
titles on of any kind, in the last 2 years, orchestrating all facets
of the
campaign, not just writing a check? How many have flown to the National
with a dog in the last 2 years? How many have schlepped dogs (not
paid a
handler or hired help to do the job) to Shows, events and the National
in
the last 2 years? How many are have paid to advertise in the Review
in the
last 2 years? How many are not part of the big machine which
circumvents
all that is holy in the pursuit of Dog Breeding Perfection by becoming a
spoke in the wheel of one man's ego to prove that this breed is full of
breeders, judges and exhibitors who are mere sheep? AKA few independent
thinkers who just want to improve the breed, not their ego bank or their
pocketbook.
Not to put out there that Performance is not important, but, let's
call a
spade a spade -- we need people who are willing to serve
altruistically who
ALSO have relevant CURRENT experience with the plight breeders and
exhibitors face in this CURRENT climate of anti-dog breeder, expensive
everything and all that..
