everyone should take the time to read barb williams' bloat article - it is
on the homepage of her web site (_www.santanagermanshepherds.com_
(http://www.santanagermanshepherds.com) ). it is under the email notice and
says
"bloat article."
also, as a result of his extensive research, dr. glickman at purdue has
come to the conclusion that bloat is genetic. in the blue book, volume 3,
there are at least 2 great articles on bloat/torsion and their genetic
properties.

Kathy that is the same point I have made many times too regarding horses.
There are so many other animals that bloat/torsion besides dogs. Although I
have never heard about a human thank you for that further information.

Remember , HORSES can bloat and torsion too, and too frequently. I lost my
best Paint mare
years ago to a torsion...she had a 3 mos old colt at her side. He
survived...but I still miss her.
It probably happens in more animals than we know. I even saw a little boy
(on Trauma Ctr TV show) that had a
gastric torsion as the result of a car accident. It was a seatbelt injury,
and he was bloated and painful, but with
no injuries readily apparent. He made it.
There are no exact causes, all we can do is try to be vigilant.
Unless by some miracle there is actually a genetic marker for it, we all
tend to hold our breath.
