isn't that the way it is already?

So...what you're saying...is if I don't breed to a nice dog, even if he
carries a genetic problem...and breed to another nice dog instead who DOESN'T
carry
a genetic problem, I'm not-so-smart and throwing the baby out with the
bathwater? Hmmm...well, I guess that's what I am then. I want nice dogs who
are
HEALTHY aaaaaannndddd produce it in their offspring.
When each pup born has a 50/50 chance of carrying DM (for example, since that
was the particular issue we were just discussing) approximately 50% of the
litter (give or take, it's all averages) will carry it. Hopefully we test them
and find out, and "breed around it", as was said earlier. But...one of them's
nice, even though he's a carrier, so we breed him. Each of his pups will
also have a 50-50 chance of carrying the same problem. Down the line there's
going to be someone who either doesn't know or doesn't care that there's a
test,
and some of those offspring are gonna be bred and produce DM. Why keep it in
your lines if you can get rid of it??

It's just like right now. There are dogs who produce dead tails, dragging
toes, bad temperaments. You can see trends in offspring of certain dogs, just
by watching a show and checking the catalog. Yes, some of the offspring are
just drop-dead gorgeous--if you can get past the issue. No way will I breed to
a dog who produces major issues, I don't CARE if he throws superstars. I will
find another nice dog instead.

Call me not-so-smart if you want, I don't particularly care. What I care
about is the health of the puppies I produce.
