The time has come for all clubs to think outside of the box.  This includes our 
parent club and the AKC.  The economy has changed, our sport has changed.

have to agree 110% with evan on this one.  the gsdca is  NOT a business - it 
is a social club, made up of members with a common  interest; the GSD.  the 
day 
we forget THAT interest, or mission, we  are done.  we constantly seek to 
find 
ways of increasing the  membership.  "belonging" to a corporate entity in 
order 
to insure  profitability is certainly no incentive.  the gsdca does not exist 
to  make money ... or lose money.  as long as the club has the funds to do  
what 
is necessary to fulfill its mission statement, then its ideals may be  
realized - THAT is its intended "balance".

I am not surprised you jump at the opportunity to disagree with me. No big  d
eal. We can all agree to disagree, but the facts are the facts.
 
I wasn't talking about AKC, I am strictly talking about our club. There is  a 
pattern of always trying to divert attention to other issues and ignoring the 
 issues at hand.
 
We are not here to turn a "profit", as reported before, we are here to make  
sure OUR club does everything necessary to provide for and protect the  breed 
and the membership. To that end, the part of the club that must generate  
revenue MUST be run like a business.  Even part of everyone's household  must 
be 
handled carefully.  Careless handling of finances have our entire  country on a 
bind right now, and you cant disagree with that. <G>
 
If you think is ok to spend $40,000+ on 3 meetings, that's your deal. I  
certainly think is too much.  And, as I said before, we will have to wait  for 
a 
Treasurers report to get all the facts.
 
Clubs have (among many others) a social area, an educational  area, and a 
fiscal area.  It is what it is, I am not re-inventing the  wheel, I just want 
it 
to turn smoothly.
 
While we enjoy the social aspect of this organization,and I certainly do,  as 
an incorporated entity, we are recognized as a business. As long as  money 
changes hands, it is considered a "business".  Did you pay to  join?  I think 
we 
all did. Social clubs I belong to have no need to be  incorporated, and 
collect no dues.  We can get an education from the house  lawyers on 
definitions.
 
But the bottom line, and the entire thread idea, is that we have to make  
SOME money to run this club, and THAT part of our club MUST be run like a  
business. Or we can put donation containers at the local pet shops. See how far 
 
that will take us.
