They are trained for schutzdienst but it's very difficult to train an
unsound dog to do it. It's not the training that makes the dog sound it's
the fact that you CAN train the dog to do it. Breeders then make sure they
breed dogs sound enough to compete. It eliminates unsound dogs before they
get to the show.
If it was just the training none of us would have the great dogs that we do
that protect us. There are good breeders and probably a lot of breeders who
don't care about temperament. If they had to do schutzhund to compete it
would force them to the table.
Evan is an excellent judge and a great judge of character (although he
still talks to me, so maybe not).  I can't say that about all judges.
