You are not alone in seeing this as a good idea, well said. sheila

disagree with everyone on this. Why not allow mixed breed dogs to compete in
things like agility and such. Obviously not conformation, as by definition that
is the evaluation of breeding stock. Although I'm a GSD person through and
through and I believe in promoting responsible breeding practices, not everyone
can afford a purebred. Does that then mean these dogs and their owners should
not be able to compete and have fun? A lot of good mixed breeds exist in the
world that should get the same love. Yes, there are other registries, but I
know here in Denver, AKC is the most common thing people see. I personally
think AKC's primary mission should be promoting responsible dog ownership,
regardless of the breed. They have some of the most recognizable programs in
the country. Why not use their popularity for the betterment of dogs? Don't
forget, mixed breeds are eligible to test for AKC CGC, which
doesn't seem to bother anyone. Besides,
UKC allows mixed breeds to compete and they register them as the All American
Dog.

Okay, so yes, the last dog I owned prior to my GSDs was a mixed breed. It
frustrated the crap out of me that I couldn't find things to do with him. Have
we lost site of the most important thing here....dogs! Purebred or not, they
all deserve to have fun and have the best lives possible. Not just that, but it
encourages more people to be responsible, train the dogs, etc.

Off my soap box now...and missing nationals (and not happy about it!).

I am totally against this. We were talking about this at herding class the
other day. If the AKC is going to become a mutt club then the Parent Club had
better start there own registry because the AKC will no longer mean much. I
wonder if the AKC is in that much financial trouble?

Gee maybe we could start a GSD X club.

I received a call from the AKC yesterday. I thought oh goodie, information
on my application.

Nope, it was a survey. They asked me 5 questions --- ALL pertaining to the
following:

Would I be in favor of the AKC starting a service that allows MIXED BREED
DOGS to be "registered". For mixed breed dogs to be eligible for
competition in AKC events. I don't know about the rest of you, but I
thought the whole point of all KENNEL CLUBS was to promote the breeding and
perfection of the PUREBRED DOG.

I sure hope that someone at the National takes Carmen by the hand and tells
him he better get that organization under control!

I mean for pete's sake! First this Petland thing, then this Hunte thing and
now "mixed breed" dogs?
