I just bought a Hoover Windtunnel the canister version...and I love it. I 
have had uprights but with hardwood floors and ceramic floors I wanted 
something 
I could get into the hard places with.  The canister does both the hard wood 
floors and the carpeting...its is extremely powerful...will suck up the throw 
rugs if I dont have it on low...plus it has the hepa filter.
My daughter told me that the Hoover Windtunnel Upright or canister has a 
better rating then the Dyson and does not cost as much.
