....I'm not sure a coated class is the way to go because no matter how you cut it...the dog does not have the correct coat. By offering a class just for coats you are validating a fault. I've never bred a coat, but if I had a nice one I would show it to a knowledgable GSD judge in a one of the classes currently offered. I think it would be a nice thing to see more coats exhibited, but I doubt people would start breeding for them on purpose. Remember just because you have a coat class, they'd still have to compete in Winners. I do not like the idea of a GSD coat variety. I believe a coat can and should be judged alongside the other dogs. A coat fault is a MINOR fault, yet is it often judged as a Major fault. That is truly a shame. I would like to see a "coated" class where au' naturale is not just encouraged, but expected. No one fools people with the trim jobs, usually they aren't very good, and one hand on the coat will speak volumes. A natural coat is beautiful. The question was that we might see coats in shelters etc.....considering that most coats are sold as pets, this would already be the case anyway. I value the coats in a line. You have to have it to keep your progeny plush and with beautiful furnishings. When you start breeding dry to dry, that is what you get. Not my taste. Nitro always gives us a coat in a litter, but I don't mind...his furnishings along his belly are 6-8 inches long in show condition, and his "britches" are spectacular. He passes this on to some of his progeny. I do recall however that his puppy coat was VERY curly and the bain of my existance at the time. lololol. Coats, SHOW EM IF YOU GOT EM!!!
