Let me give you an example of Baytril's potency...Long time ago..I took
Bull(he was about 2 or so) to St. Louis to be collected by a "reproductive"
vet for an AI to an outside bitch...after the collection..a few white
blood cells appeared in the culture...mind you..he did not clean Bull's
sheath off with saline before the collection..so the semen passed over
contaminates...the culture was also tested for mycoplasma..it was
negative..but a "pseudomona" appeared in the culture(which is sort of a
cousin to mycoplasma, but there are about a thousand differnt ones..most
harmless..Aregenosa is the bad one)...I came home from work to a message on
my answering machine that said I needed to put Bull on Bayril for 3 weeks
to get rid of the bacteria...fortunately I had enough knowledge about this
type of thing..that I called the vet..spoke with his receptionist..and
asked her to give me the exact reading on the culture. I called my
vet..only to find out that the "pseudomona" the so-called reproductive vet
had wanted me to treat was found in pond water and was in fact not harmful!
Three weeks of Atrial would have probably rendered Bull sterile!...At work
we call Baytril( the human equivalent..enrofloxin) a "deep shit"
antibiotic...used when you have a real problem..I never give it to anything
unless absolutely necessary and never prophylactically.C.Grainger
