Thanks to Dr. Chuck Kruger for his explanation of the problems with mycoplasma.
This subject comes up all the time and it never ceases to amaze me that there is
still any question as to whether to test or not. I am further amazed that '
Dr.
Hutch '
thinks it's a non problem??? YES.....maiden bitches and unused studs can
have it!!!
Our Vet will not allow a breeding over a 2+. Same with the strep growths....
If you get MP results quickly in the test....you've got a HEAVY growth.
Our Vet is the repro Vet in our area, and just dealt with a Chesapeake Bay
Breeder
that had not had normal litters for 2 yrs. He tested several of her main
animals
and they ALL had mycoplasma. Treated entire kennel and she is having normal
litters again. He's been to Dr. Hutchinson's seminars and does not agree on
this
due to his own experiences with Breeders.
WHY would anyone breed to a stud that does NOT require mycoplasma test on
their bitch??? To save $100.00?? Then how do you know what he was bred to
two weeks before yours??? Studs can't be checked on every breeding and THIS
is how they should be maintained in between.......by clearing the bitches.
I.C.S.B. people in our area won't even deal with a dog with mycoplasma for
an A.I. or implant. Another thing, people that think they don't need to test
the bitch if they are having an A.I. or an Implant........all that money and
trouble
and then can't figure out why the bitch missed....................JEEEEEZ!!!
Talk about throwing money "down the tubes".......<G>
I can't figure out why this is even open for discussion....or are we on 'the
Schedule'.<G>
