I should have been clearer here: You generally have to pay import VAT,
or the Canadian equivalent for the OP, on any transactions (that
includes shipping fees) that appear on the customs offices' radar.
Making it very clear that this is a repair probably gets you a waiver
for the outgoing parcel, but once it's coming back repaired you are
charged. Which is okay, import VAT is the equivalent of local VAT,
creating a level playing field; but it is still a hefty surcharge.
Actual customs fees should not be an issue for repairs, indeed.
I'm very satisfied with the FFS work, they did almost a miracle repairing

That was a glowing recommendation. My 35S has transport issues in cold
weather, I might consider sending it their way this time.
