I like this much better also. This is more like what I thought was planned for
this project. We'll need to work out the details and decide on the overall
length of the modules, (and how to match up the other side of the layout), but
it looks great.

Subject: [rc3r] : Train Station Modules
Very nice, Ken. I like it.

I'm just throwing some ideas out here, but here's another
variation on a pull through yard under the station. Still 18' of modules but
reduced the width to 36". In order for the switches not to land on the
module joints the outer modules are 6'-6 and the center module is 5'.
Reading from bottom to top:
Tracks 1 & 2 are the mains
Track 3 has about 11' of storage (6- 21" scale length cars)
Track 4 has about 9' of storage (Maybe 5-21" scale length cars)
Track 5 has about 7' of storage ( 3 1/2 - 21" scale length cars)
Track 6 is a runaround track. I figure to get the most cars under the
station you would pull in, decouple the engine, back it up to the
runaround track and park it in one of the stub end sidings. When you
want to pull the train out you simply take the engine out and couple
back up to the train. You could also use the stub tracks for express or
RPO cars.
Of course you can get more 15" or 18" cars into the yard. I was just
looking at worst case. Again I'm using Atlas switches. I think Ross
switches will cut down the distance between tracks about 1/2".
