Kevin….that can be done…..the issue is the placement of the overhead
station……you don’t want it over a switch…….let me play with it.

How about something simpler, like this?

I came up with a few problems/things to be considered with this design:
I only left 5" for the between modules jumper track at the first switches
off the inner main. There needs to be another 5.5" straight before the
switch so the jumper track doesn't connect directly to the more fragile
switch. Adding that 5.5" straight to both ends of the longer modules will
shorten the yard about a foot. This may also have to make the outer modules
7' long with the inner module at 4' so the furthest to the rear switches
don't land on the module joints.
There are 12 switches = $.
I don't know what the ideas are for the raised station/city, but it
shouldn't cover any switches or we will not be able to see to do switching.
Probably will need remote uncouplers on all the sidings = more $.
Lots of wiring. Will need some kind of control panel for switch controls,
uncoupler buttons, and siding on/off switches. Also = more $.

Good morning! Based on all of the diagrams I've seen thus far (and I like
all of them), I think Ken's second variation may be the one to consider,
contingent on cost.
I wonder if we'll need to recruit a stationmaster…

Subject: [rc3r] Re: Train Station Modules
I'm just throwing some ideas out here, but here's another variation on a
pull through yard under the station. Still 18' of modules but reduced the
width to 36". In order for the switches not to land on the module joints
the outer modules are 6'-6 and the center module is 5'. Reading from bottom
to top:
Tracks 1 & 2 are the mains
Track 3 has about 11' of storage (6- 21" scale length cars)
Track 4 has about 9' of storage (Maybe 5-21" scale length cars)
Track 5 has about 7' of storage ( 3 1/2 - 21" scale length cars)
Track 6 is a runaround track. I figure to get the most cars under the
station you would pull in, decouple the engine, back it up to the runaround
track and park it in one of the stub end sidings. When you want to pull the
train out you simply take the engine out and couple back up to the train.
You could also use the stub tracks for express or RPO cars.
Of course you can get more 15" or 18" cars into the yard. I was just
looking at worst case. Again I'm using Atlas switches. I think Ross
switches will cut down the distance between tracks about 1/2".
