Hi !
If you can access one of the battery wires, try dolering a zener diode of 5.6 v in series with the battery. It will bring down the battery voltage to the correct value. Once this is done, using a cardboard collar into the battery slot as a guide, use 1.55 silver oxyde batteires, 4 that have the correct dia. and of approching height once stacked. It will permit you to run it fine, even with a correct meter.
Ask the guy selling you the zener diode for advice and wiring.
