For me since the early 80s :
Fiber only
Develop
Stop - diluted Acedic acid
Fix - standard hardening fix 5 min
Hold in water bath
When finished all printing:
Pure hypo 5 min
Directly into
Selenium toner mixed with HCA
Pure HCA 5 min
Wash 90 minutes in Archival vertical washer.
Squeegee on old car window glass
Dry on screens
Never had staining problems,
Prints were occasionally tested for residual silver, residual fixer, and
residual HCA.
Always passed tests.
Prints still look great 40 years later.
For a few years, there were some great test pens made by Light Impressions back
in the day, that tested acidity, residual silver, residual HCA. In addition to
directly testing a finished print, the acid test pen could be used by leaving
a mark on the back of the mat board to indicate if prints were exposed to an
acidic environment throughout their life indicated by color change.
I am just this year changing my process routine to:
Fiber only
Develop
water stop
TF-5 rapid fix 1 min
Water hold
Direct into Selnium/HCA
Rinse
Wash 90 minutes vertical washer.
