Yeah, Location, Location, Location. Where I live, a gal of distilled is
$0.89.
Although Kodak and others formulate with some variation in water in mind,
I've found that using distilled for everything gives me great repeatability.
For example, if I travel and want to develop film, I can do so, knowing
I will get the exact same results I would in my home darkroom.
I didn't used to think this mattered all that much, but - when I moved to
a newly built home with similarly new water supply piping some years ago -
I discovered nearly one stop of variability throughout the year. I suspect
it would be less these days since the supply pipes are now well seasoned,
but why bother when I can just use distilled and not even think about it ...
