I recently purchased 10 rolls of JandC Pro 100 film to play around with. This film is made in China and is a classic emulsion. The first thing that I noticed when the spool was unwrappped was that the flanges on the spool were rather thin. Rather than being a bad thing it tempted me to try putting a roll into my very first camera, a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye circa 1950. (Yes, I am serious dating myself. ;-)) Now this camera was designed to accept 620 film but the Pro 100 spool fit without any difficulty and wound correctly onto a 620 spool. The Hawkeye has no exposure controls beyond two shutter modes I and T, but the developed film yielded excellent negatives from EV 12 to EV 15 when developed in Divided D-23. There is one curious thing about this film. There is a hole in the paper backing about 2 inches past the last frame. It is the same size as the holes in 3-ring binder paper and is centered on the paper. As this hole passes under the ruby window the film is fogged. Since this is past the last frame this is really not a problem but I wonder what purpose this hole serves. There was one other problem, rather an annoyance, in that it was hard to see the information on the backing through the ruby window. There is not enough contrast between the rather grayish printing and the black backing paper. It looks like the white ink has been well diluted to save money. All in all I was pleased with this first try with this film. If you have any 620 film cameras that you would like to put some film through you might try this film. I can't guarantee that it will fit all 620 cameras but at $1.39 it is far cheaper than the respooled 120 film sold as 620 size.
