You know there's been times where that may have been useful for other
electrical issues as well so it may be time to go get some tomorrow since I
won't be printing and have some time on my hands...

Instead of WD40 you might want to go to an electrical supply place, maybe even
Radio Shack, and get some "electrical contact cleaner."
But try to keep it away from plastic. Some plastics get distorted. I don't know
what mechanical contacts/relays are in the Kearsarge, but it might help if
there are some.

I've not 'tested' the switch other than to plug in the timer and see the effect

a printed circuit board so that size and shape is important? If not, the start
switch is probably just a momentary contact, normally open switch and you
should
be able to find a replacement at Radio Shack. Have you confirmed the switch is
bad by shorting together the terminals of the switch to see if the timer
activates?

>Regarding the other timer: Are you saying that the
timer functions correctly with a regular lamp plugged into either the timer or
focus outlet, but not with the enlarger head plugged in? That seems to indicate
that there may be an issue with the cold light- perhaps the load is too heavy
for the timer. Or the fact that it's a cold light, a reactive load rather than
a
resistive load, might be the problem. Did it work previously and stop working?
Are there switch contacts that you can locate- if so, you could try cleaning
those contacts with a relay burnishing tool or a fingernail file.
