Hi John,

I agree that fldigi is the place to handle the PSK500 issue. I have planned to mod the fldigi source to prevent it switching to PSK500, or send TxID for PSK500. I've been sidetracked with the problem of RSID not decoding.

A check box on the mail configuration page of fldigi would be super.

The server is decoding RSID and switching modes fine now. Just have the client to straighten out.

Russel,

I understand. I think we could ask the Fldigi group for a solution to
that PSK500(R) issue as it is best done in Fldigi rather than Pskmail.

I think an option in the PSK and mail configuration tab saying
"Disable PSK500 modes when used a modem" would do fine.

If a request by pskmail server or client or from the radio to switch
to PSK500 modes arises, it should go back to the closest thing: PSK250
or PSK250R depending on the request.

Would that make sense?

John

Thanks John, for now my server is Puppy mail v0.9.22 and I am running fldig
0.3.12 but when I am in client mode I use fldigi-3.13BH and jPskmail 0.4.0.2.
The group is working on a fix for the server not to Tx RISD for PSK500 mode in
the U.S. Fred has been hard at it all day.

Hello Russel and Fred,

Just a couple of points which may be of help:

Fred, I also had issues with RSID not switching sometimes. I noticed
that selecting "search entire passband" in the ID configuration of
Fldigi can help with the decoding. I can't explain why, but it did
help in my case.

Also sometimes I noticed that de-selecting and re-selecting the
receive RSID button on Fldigi seems to jog it into play and it receive
RSIDs immediately rather than after two attempts.

Russell, it is ok for the server to be "wandering" on other modes
since the client now always sends the connecting mode RSID before the
connect. Therefore it will re-connect on any mode. And that even if it
moved away from the default mode.

On the other hand if you don't have RSID on, connections can only be
made on the default mode.

My suggestion is to leave RSID on and let it change at will. The only
constraint then is that if someone uses an old version of Pskmail and
Fldigi they will have to connect on the current (and therefore
unknown) mode.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,

John

Ok Well the band is getting long your just about gone for me, I'm not sure who
is talking to who some time, If I start fldigi-3.13BH and it shows PSK31 as the
mode, and then I start jPSKmail-0.4.0.2 client and its set for PSK250, nothing
changes or I'm not sure if it should, But I give it to for hanging in there
with all this, and all the help thats around it will get all cleared up.

Hi Russell,

The server won't ask for you to update the server if it already has you in its
database. You can update it anytime you want, if your mail info changes.

That was probably me playing with the server. I'm still stuck on my fldigi not
working properly with RSID. The server will send TxID and change speeds, but I
can't get my client to follow the speed change, even though RxID is on.
jPSKmail is properly setting RxID and TxID.

I have tried making it work with just two fldigi's running on two machines,
without pskmail_server or jPSKmail running. I've changed from my compiled fldigi
to a pre-compiled binary. I've upgraded to fldigi 3.13BJ. Nothing is checked in
the ID tab on fldigi configuration. So far nothing. I'm sure I'm gonna feel real
stupid when I find the problem :>)

Fred, the last few times I connect to your server it never ask for me to update

updated. Someone today was TxRISD and switched me to PSK500R. So I turned off
the RxRISD ..
