A while back people were pushing Real Alternative as a way of being rid
of the aggravations of RealPlayer. See
http://www.codecguide.com/download_real.htm

Is this a serious option? Has anyone had any experience with this?

It seems there's also an alternative version of QuickTime, which is
another PITA.

They are both on my ever-growing list of "to do" jobs which I never get
around to :-(
