24 fps = 24 frames per second.  It is the number of discrete images
(pictures) that the tv can display within one second.  (Did you ever have
one of those flip books that had pictures in it that you could flip and
"see" a movie take place if you flipped the pages quickly enough?)

And, yes, my Panasonic 50" is really 600Hz, which makes a good deal of
difference when watching high-activity shows or DVDs (e.g., "The Dark
Knight"'s fight scenes.

Is the 600 the refresh rate?

Plasmas also have "half-life" issues (they dim over time).  There is also
the issue of side-lit or back-lit (or both) LCD TVs now.

What is the issue of side lit or back lit?
