Timothy,

Welcome to the list! I would use scandisk first to see if you have any
problems with the HD. If Scandisk finds a problem you can set it up to allow
Scandisk to correct and repair any of the errors it finds. It almost sounds
like you have a bad sector or two. Once Scandisk had corrected the errors, I
would then do a format. Also running your computer on only 58% may also be
the problem. You should shut off all programs at startup that you absolutely
do not need and then reboot and see if this doesn't help you. I just thought
of another possibility, why not reboot your system in a safe mode and try to
run scandisk or defrag in this state? Let us know what happens.

Why thank you everyone.

I came on hoping to cure my computer woes. my computer doesn't want to
defragment, it goes to 3% and started over, I have left it on at night to
defragment, and it is still only 3%.
Internet explorer takes 5 minutes to load, and then you put in another
address, another 5 minutes. AHHHHHH
I am running at 58% free.

I have a pentium 1, (Intel) with 160 megs of ram, my 4 gig HD is 75% full.
any ideas.
I want to just format 'C' and start over.

We just a surge of new members on the list (more than we've had for
years). I'm not sure why, but suddenly we've got lots of new friends.

Here are some of the partial id's. You all know who you are! Big welcome
all. I hope you all got your preview copy of my book after joining (it
helps to know if everything all works).

If you don't know me, I'm the guy that keeps everyone well behaved on
this list. Still, in our case I get very little work of that kind. It's
great to have you here.

I'm curious about one thing. Can you tell me about yourself a little
bit, and please give me some idea what gave you the sudden impulse to do
it? I'm dying to know.
