I tend to agree with Sam. I do dozens of free events in the Phoenix area every
year with no pay, and no expectation to recover any of my costs. And on my own,
I do events in Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon that cost me fuel and hotel and
food. And that’s fine. However, when PAS is requested to do a free event which
is well outside of the Phoenix metropolitan area, and usually more than a 5
hour time commitment, it’s not unreasonable to get at least reimbursed for
fuel.

Several months ago I got up at 6 am, drove to Tonto National Monument, did
an 8 hour event with meteorites and my PST for no pay, no meals, no gas
money. It was fine with me although I was very tired driving home.
I do think that we should try for food and water from the Tonto National
Monument at the very least, and we should take turns doing the event since it
is so far to drive,. Doing it once a year is fun and enough. Sam

I can’t say this enough. If you feel pas should pay you to drive to a
location and do a free event. You should probably look for a new astronomy
club. I would never ask pas to pay me for a free event. If I can’t receive
the payment from the event I sure don’t want it from a club that I’m supposed
to b volunteering my time with. I’ve never heard of any church paying for
volunteer work. I think the telescope team is starting to get money hungry. I
remember most of the team saying it’s not about the money. You could have
fooled me

Don,
I don't think that was officially voted on, to be paid for out of Phoenix
events...
plus, the pay, if you do it by IRS standards would come out of PAS's pocket
at $187.50/vehicle - ish..... I did the calculation from PVCC. I don't think
PAS should be putting out that kind of money. If you want to do the
event, for free, no reimbursement and no food provided, then
sign up for it.
Think of it this way, if three scopes attend, that's 3 x 187.50 that
PAS is paying it's telescopes (Or other helpers at this event)
for gas to get out there and back. Are we really trying to drain
the PAS bank account?
That's my input on this. Like many of you, i have driven all over phoenix,
outside phoenix,
etc to do freebee, long distance events for the promotion of PAS. I don't
think PAS should
have to pay for this service. PAS already pays for your PAS business cards
and
handouts.
Just my 2 cents.
I have included Eric in this email, so if he wants to agree with what I said
or disagree, his input is welcome. I just don't think PAS should be paying
a member to do a long distance star party mostly because a few of these
far away events will use up the funds PAS is collecting for other more
honorable
expenses such as the yearly scholarship.
Everyone have a super day. I will be putting all three of these events on
line and providing
you the links to sign up. First to sign up gets the event. The requested
amount of telescopes,
plus 1 presenter pre event, is 3 scopes...

I thought, at the last MOM, we agreed to pay for gas and a meal for any free

Awesome day to everyone in PAS as long as it is a freebee event and with no
money exchange at all....
Park After Dark
Christine Sadle wants to schedule 3 events
with PAS for 2019 into 2020.
I have looked, and the three dates she has chosen
are currently open on the PAS calendar.
Now i want to be sure I have enough scopes to cover
the events before I book them.
Here are the details:
Here's the map on how to get to Tonto National Monument. This is a freebee
event, meaning you do it
to enjoy the Dark Skies. No money is coming in from PAS or Tonto Nat
Monument to you.
Confirm you are able to do these dates by RSVP at the links provided. Please
note the time of the events and the set up time. Mike, you can attend as a
presenter, to any of these events you wish to, especially if it is requested
by Christa.... and Sam, if you prefer to be a presenter instead of a scope,
make a note of that in your RSVP...You can be either.
Address is: 26260 N AZ Hwy 188 Roosevelt AZ 85595
Nov 23 2019
Event 7pm to 9pm
Set up is 6pm
Requesting 2-3 scopes
Jan 25 2020
Event 6pm to 10pm
Set up is 5pm
2-3 scopes
This event will be a celebration of our recent International Dark Sky Park
designation. We would like to invite PAS to offer telescope viewing, and set
up any information about the organization
Mike if you attend this event, I will consider doing it as well with the PAS
table of handouts.
April 25 2020
Event 8pm to 10pm
Set up is 7pm
2-3 scopes
Putting these events on the site. I have the Booking docs for all three
events.
Since i don't have time to put the calendar links up,
let's have mini signups for these three dates in a reply email so i know we
have enough scopes to cover all three events. Please take a moment to reply
if you wish to do one or all 3 of these events. The more scopes we send out
there on the January date, the better the promoting of PAS.
Terri, Event Manager
I'll get the links on line this next week.
Have a super weekend!
