We see a lot of Adobe RTMP pushing to our cloud from consumer apps to
TriCaster, etc. pro encoders. Zixi is another of several internet "unicast
plus error correction" protocols. RTP is used over dedicated links, and we are
preparing to support SMPTE 2022-7 dual link, which should provide good
reliability over internet and radio link faults because it enables end to end
diversity for typical internet errors that exceed FEC time spans and avoids
long latency for retries.

Skype is widely used for audio, and now has a professional broadcast product,
TalkShow. With billions of users around the world, Skype has developed a very
robust set of protocols and network analysis to keep the streams flowing over
random internet paths. There's lots of interest in WebRTC providing browser
based realtime streams, but it relies on basic protocols like RTP.

In an emergency, for news, yes, mobile phones might be used. In a planned

I have a question to this community. What technology is used by broadcasters
when they need some local content real fast? Do they use consumer products
such as mobile phones/tablets and consumer apps or some other technology?
