It's exactly like I asked a long time ago, Craig. What makes it about TV that
turns everyone freakin' stupid? Honestly, you'd think they don't know how to
use search engines. The very least the NYT could have done is to explain how
these limited use little boxes give you no flexibility. And proceed to
educate, rather than befuddle.
What makes this situation is exist is simple Bert. The government has allowed
the content owners and the MVPDs to operate as an oligopoly. The oligopolies
place their most valuable content in bundles with a pile of smoldering crap -
if you want the good stuff you must also pay for the other stuff.
Apparently we're all stupid, since 75% pay for the MVPD bundles and most of the
other 25% pay by watching ads or by subscribing to SVOD bundles.
There was NO REASON for the NYT to cloud the issue that the article addressed
with a bunch of additional information about services that do not replicate the
content available from MVPD services.
You keep trying to disagree with facts, but you never get them right:
http://www.tvtechnology.com/news/0002/17-percent-of-us-households-are-otaonly/278987
"If you include homes that have no TVs at all-about 3 percent of all
households-then less than three quarters, or 73 percent, of U.S. homes
continue to have pay TV service, .."
This statement is incorrect and at odds with each the article and the website.
There is nothing remotely ambiguous about this, Craig.
Of course there is. The article states 75% still subscribe to a MVPD bundle;
their website confirms this. The article tells us that 23% (17 + 6) use
broadcast or the Internet. Then a spokesperson for the company that conducted
the survey says we should deduct 3% for TV nevers. Never mind that there is a
2% gap in the data the survey provides.
This survey is questionable at best.

Craig
