This was done by Comcast in the Lansing market almost four years ago. What
took Cox so long?

Cox: Hard-wired cable users must soon switch to mini box
Cox cable subscribers who still plug their TVs directly into a wall to
receive analog signals will have to get a mini box to receive digital signals
before channels start to disappear around the end of June.
Cox is converting to all-digital TV service, which will free up about 40
percent of the total bandwidth currently taken up by analog signals. That will
allow the company to use the bandwidth to offer more high-definition channels
and roll out its Gigablast high-speed internet service throughout the
Gainesville/Ocala market.
Each TV that plugs directly into the wall will need a mini-box to continue
showing cable channels.
Each home that needs one will receive at least one mini box free of charge
for at least a year. After that, the mini box will cost $2.99 per month.
Customers can call 844-239-2224 or go to Cox.com/GoAllDigital to receive a free
box by mail. The boxes are also available at Cox Solutions Stores in
Gainesville and Ocala.
The newly digital customers will receive additional HD channels, Music
Choice channels, an on-screen guide and parental controls available to current
digital subscribers.
Cox will start to “peel back” analog channels around the end of June to
spur customers to get the boxes and will cut more channels a month later before
analog service completely ends in September.
Cox started sending notices by email, home mailers and in bills last week.
“We don't want customers after the first peel-back to have to wait in line
at the store or to miss some of their favorite shows because they haven't
called yet to get their boxes,” said Cam Johnson, public affairs manager for
the Southeast Region.
